  • One of the most influential figures in the Covenant of the Enlightened, Burson Carpathian was a man on who the very Dystopian Age would hinge upon. Carpathian cared not for such things. His obsession over the past decade was in researching and challenging the very laws of nature so that he might be able to restore to life his beloved wife Veronica. Such a destiny was denied him one fateful night at the hands of his own nephew, Roman Ursul.

Ursul (now going by the name Caym) assassinated his uncle while Carpathian was speaking to an assembled audience of Enlightened Peers. Expecting to be lauded as the new head of the Enlightened, Caym had badly misread the situation and was forced to flee before retribution could be met out against him. The damage was done, however, and it was clear that Carpathian was mortally wounded. Kyle the Black, and Countess Augusta Byron, worked tirelessly on the dying scientist for three days. Miraculously, the pair managed to bring him back from the brink of death, though he was forever transformed. Most of Burson's body was damaged beyond repair and his brain was also heavily damaged.

Utilising the latest scientific and engineering breakthroughs, Carpathian is sustained in a reshaped body and mind. In his new incarnation, Carpathian's physical form is formidable. His new hands can crush bone with little effort and his Atomic Minigun is capable of laying down a hail of irradiated bullets. The most formidable aspect about Carpathian remains his mind, however, where he was once calculating and detached, he is now fickle and irrational. He will often erupt in spontaneous rages or moments of inconsolable misery. His closest allies are now fearful of his reactions to the smallest disappointments and his enemies are now fearful of this new more powerful and more unpredictable foe.

As for Caym, while he has not been seen in the Frontier since that fateful day, there is no doubt a reckoning still to be had.

  • Dr. Viktor Beitel was once a brilliant scientist whos self-experimentation left him destitute. For years Beitel had been unsuccessfully blending the viscus glowing red fuel with testosterone to increase muscle and bone synthesis. His dream was to find a way to introduce an RJ infused serum into the human body and to harness its power to effectively create an ubermensch - a superhuman. This power could then be sold to the ailing Confederate army and Beitel could retire as a very powerful man in every sense of the word. In the final days of the Ore War, Beitel was part of a Confederate attack on a shipment of RJ-1027 destined for the Union. The Enlighted defending the shipment took a heavy toll on the Confederates and only Beitel survived, with a solitary barrel of RJ for his trouble.

Beitel's dreams began to slip through his fingers as even with such limited resources, the Ore war reached its end and the list of volunteers willing to risk their lives in such a manner dwindled to nothing. He did not let this crush his hopes, however, and he made the acquaintance of a resourceful associate Skip McKidney. This travelling snake oil salesman gave Beitel access to drifters and animals to experiment on. After another dozen failed experiments a breakthrough continued to elude him. Soon even these subjects began to become harder to find and as Beitel became more desperate his failures became more dramatic. An experiment on two stray dogs he named Castor & Pollux created beasts that were indeed stronger and tougher than they were before but were as hideous as all the other failed subjects. There was some hope, however, as they retained enough of their instincts to be of use as companions.

Francis Fratelli was a sideshow curiosity when Beitel found him. Fratelli's conjoined twin, Fredo, is a small half-formed man emerging from Francis' chest. Sick of their life, they agreed to participate in Beitel's experiments. Having applied the latest formula, Beitel was surprised to find them both unchanged. There was no sign of any increased strength or endurance but neither were there any physical changes. The following night, Fredo died and was transformed into a nightmarish creature. This vicious cancer of teeth and hate demonstrated significant telepathic and telekinetic abilities. Heartened by what he saw as a success, Beitel experimented on an escaped convict by the name of Marcus Cunningham. This time the physical changes worked exactly as predicted and Marcus developed increased strength and durability but he also manifested a cranial bone growth and skin akin to elephant hide.

Believing he neared perfection of his formula, Beitel conducted what he believed was his final experiment. It was only right that he do so on his favourite test subject: himself. He was wrong, however, and the serum was still far from perfect. Beitel was transformed into a hulking slab of muscle standing over eight feet tall. While his intellect and reasoning remained undiminished the change was not without cost. Many of his internal organs atrophied and became toxic in the transformation. Unable to consume food any longer, without regular doses of his serum, Beitel finds himself rapidly weakening to the point of death. This all-consuming hunger drives him onwards with his unusual band of followers, raiding convoys, experimenting on the unwary and finding dubious employment opportunities where they can. Anything so the boss can get his next fix.

  • The inventor Thomas Edeson has a knack of developing technology pioneered by others and refining it as his own. Coupled with a shrewd understanding of the politics within the Enlightened, his place at the heart of Burson Carpathian’s Egalitarian theology is assured.

Edeson has taken advances in communications and applied his own considerable intellect to expand the field of sonic based technology. His most significant achievement to date has been the development of the Phonic Blaster; a highly versatile weapon capable of rupturing eardrums, skin and also internal organs if the frequency is right. The experimental Aural Projectors he personally wields are even more powerful.

A laboratory accident in his youth left him deaf to the world. Not one to let human frailty defeat him, Edeson developed a new hearing device to overcome his disability. While fine-tuning the device during a trip to the ballet, Edeson became entranced by Mina Miller, the ballerina of the company. He fell in love with her and the pair were soon married. Dancing was Mina’s passion and as he worked he would often ask her to dance in his workshop in a private performance as his muse. When Mina was struck down by Polio, the science of the Enlightened saved her life, but she was forever mentally and physically debilitated by the disease. Desperate to see his wife smile, Thomas arranged for Gustave Eiffel to create her a new pair of legs and improve her body. The operation was a success and Mina is now more devoted than ever, tirelessly dancing for Edeson as he works long into the night. If Edeson has to travel, Mina usually accompanies him, now his lethal protector as much as a muse…

  • The moon-howl brothers of the mountains have long been allies to the Warrior Nation. In times of need, whole packs have been known to come to the aid of a beleaguered tribe. Hunting Wolves are extremely fast over open ground and rough terrain alike. Often one wolf will dart in against their prey, usually from behind, and take a swipe while another of the pack does the same. Working together in this way they can take down much larger opponents and once on the ground they go for the throat.

As a direct descendant of the Empress with a startling likeness, Gozen has been trained extensively in both the martial and diplomatic arts. While her adventurous nature made her unsuitable for a role at court, Gozen was trusted instead with a secret mission to the American Frontier.

As Emissary of the Blazing Sun, Nakano Gozen's mission has brought her into contact with both the Lawmen and Outlaws in the Wild West. While she is treated with suspicion by the authorities, her skill with the blade and silver tongue make her a valued ally to the Outlaws. Her interest in the activities of Doctor Carpathian has not gone unnoticed by the Enlightened or Union agents either...

  • The process of gnosis has allowed the Allshard to impart the designs of many fantastical and arcane technologies to their mortal followers. Such designs are revered as sacred relics, their replication one of careful and unwavering repetition. Though such marvels are limited by the terrestrial materials and processes used to manufacture them, they are still decades beyond even the wildest dreams of the scientists of the Enlightened. The Tumbler is one such relic - a high speed and perfectly self-stabilizing monowheel. Piloted by a single Spica, the Tumblers are exceptionally very fast and agile for their size. The twin Sunhammer Cannons pack a punch, searing enemies and melting steel with rapid blasts of super-heated particles.

  • Born and raised in the hills of Northern Mexico, Pancho Villa was the oldest of five children and grew up in comparative poverty. He learned from an early age that the best way to get noticed was by making the most noise. As he grew from boy to man, his hair-trigger temper dictated his path. Angry and embittered by what he saw as the hand Fate had dealt him, he took it upon himself to change his own destiny. A passion for improving his lot and a penchant for powerful ‘juiced’ weaponry drove him to acts of theft and banditry during which he became a stone-cold murderer of his fellow man. Despite his new-found status as a killer, Villa found he was not reviled. Indeed, despite his occasional cruelty, he had somehow become a local hero. In order to advertise his wealth and success to all who see him, Pancho became known for his expensive attire and flashy gold embroidered outfits.

The years passed by and Pancho Villa’s myth grew beyond local borders. He became a revolutionary, a land-owner, eventually becoming rich and powerful. Though he still planned the lightning raids his posses committed on other landowners, as he got older he took a less front line role. His growing army engaged in bolder and more daring acts with each passing year. Eventually, Mexico was no longer large enough for him. Villa had heard of the prospectors in the United States and their rush to find their part of the riches offered by the seams of natural resource the country offered. He wanted his share and, as far as Pancho Villa was concerned, his share was ‘all’.

In his relentless drive north, he has gathered a considerable force behind him and is no longer content to lead from the back. His new followers include the deadly pistolero Heraclio Bernal, known as the Thunderbolt of Sinaloa, The Fearless Desperado Procopio, for whom killing was a pastime, the revolutionist Rosaria Mendes, whose message can be heard far and wide and Catalina Romero, hunter, trapper and crack shot with a rifle.

Villa has taken up his Gatling gun and stands at the head of what has become known as the Golden Army, as their undisputed patriarch.

  • An honourable and gentle soul when at rest, Ghost Wolf is insightful and wise, fond of storytelling and enjoying the company of his extensive family. All too often he is roused to war and his talents are put to a more bloody purpose.

Though a powerful Spirit Walker, Ghost Wolf often remains in his mortal form as the Warrior Nation has a great need for his leadership and tactical mind. The wolf within him calls to his kin and often he is always accompanied by a number of his brother wolves. These hunting wolves have been blessed by the Great Spirit to be larger and stronger than their kin as well as possessing more intelligence. They are as fast as the wind and their powerful jaws are potent allies. When they attack in a pack there is little that can stand against them. The wolf spirit ensures he is often accompanied by those Spirit Walkers of the Weylyn who can embrace the animal spirit and aid their chieftain.

Ghost Wolf can always rely on the support of Hawkeye and Moonswift, two experienced warriors who are carving out their own legend within the Nation. Hawkeye is second to none with a bow, capable of hitting the eye of a running hare. With a kinship that approaches family, Moonswift is almost as fast as her Hunting Wolf brothers and sisters. Adept at channeling spirit energy, Moonswift is able to leap over her enemies and bury an axe in an exposed flank.

  • One of the most influential figures within the Enlightened (though acknowledging there may be others is not an advisable notion to air in his presence), Gustave Eiffel has been working to carve out his own power base within the Egalitarian movement from the moment he arrived in the West. Seeing fealty to the Egalitarians as a way to break free of Lord Sturgeon’s constricting Custodian theology, Eiffel has embraced the wide proliferation of RJ-1027 that his fellow Egalitarian Enlightened promote.

Over recent years, the field of advanced mechanical augmentations has become an obsession for him. Building on his original Widower constructs, he now works feverishly pursuing the next great breakthrough in the field.

Reluctantly tearing himself away from his iron wrought creations, Eiffel enters battle piloting a spider-like combat chassis of his own design. Rumours persist that this is but a prototype for a much larger articulated colossus to rival those of the military powers of the world, a machine to stride across the Union bringing the influence of the Enlightened to every part of the continent, and beyond...

  • Irontooth is the youngest of the Warrior Nation's leaders and a man who has grown up within the new society forged by Raven Spirit rather than the old divided tribes that preceded it. From an early age, Irontooth showed great skill and power in the ways of the Great Spirit and he soon took his own path to become a Spirit Priest. This was short lived as only weeks into his training his people were butchered by an interloping Union patrol. Instinct took over and he embraced his Spirit Guide: the Mountain Lion. Irontooth ‘awoke’ to find he was a Spirit Walker and like the lion in his vision, he was soon stalking his enemies, his teeth sinking into flesh and talons ripping his foes open as they fled screaming into the night. While the transformation from man into Spirit Walker is usually achieved only through a long and intense ritual, this change had occurred spontaneously. This gift has even raised an eyebrow from Raven Spirit when he heard tell of it.

Irontooth's path has been chosen for him and a life of dedication to the Great Spirit was now to take a very different route. He is a Spirit Walker, a warrior of formidable strength and skill and Irontooth is often found leading warrior bands through the mountain paths to strike at their enemies.

To his wife, Silver Spear, Irontooth confesses he would rather that this path had not been chosen for him and that he could live out his days with her in peace. He knows the Great Spirit hears him and he also knows that the Great Spirit can see his heart and can see that despite these private thoughts Irontooth will continue to fight the enemies of the Warrior Nation even with his last breath should it come to that.

  • To the world at large, Marie Laveau is Queen of the Bayou and Vodun priestess to all of New Orleans. Believed to be the latest in a long line of women whose lineage stretches back into the mists of time, even in an age of scepticism and science, her powers defy understanding or explanation. Chanting to dark spirits she dances lewdly while waving her fetish staff and seeds the ground with ingredients taken from the pouches hitched to her belt or strapped about her person on leather thongs. In this way is she able to manifest bolts of corrupt energy, control the beasts of the dark places or summon spectral creatures to do her bidding.

This is all for show. Marie Laveau is an invention, a glamour used to cloud the eyes of man from the true horror that crawls across the land behind beguiling magics. In truth, the woman known as Marie Laveau has no name that mortal tongues can pronounce. She is a monster, a grotesque aberration. She has dwelled in the Louisiana bayous for as long as they have been and they are her fiefdom.

As part of the Dark Council, Marie Laveau is invigorated by the power of the Hex, something she passes off as “Voodoo Magick” and is the oldest servant of the stygian fragment of the Hex in the Americas. She has seen members come and go, she has even had a hand in removing some personally, most notoriously the Dark Shepherdess whose monuments can still be found in the wilds of the Disputed Territories. As such she is considered the senior member and her judgement is deferred to in any situation where the Council members cannot reach a unanimous decision. This gives her a disproportionate amount of influence on the direction of the Hex’s plans. Whether she was once human and her extended exposure to the pure energies of the Hex have turned her into the creature she is now or whether she is something altogether more sinister, only she knows for certain.

While abroad, Marie Laveau dons her glamour to bewitch and beguile the men and women she has dealings with. None can see past her deception as her magic is strong though there are those of sufficient wit or power that may see not the shadow of a beautiful woman thrown out by fire or moonlight but the writhing tentacles of her true form. In recent years Marie has had dealings with the Confederate Rebellion, aiding them when their goals have aligned. Though the rebels do not appreciate her true nature or form.

In battle Marie appears far stronger than the average woman, hitting harder than her slight frame suggests and crossing even the most treacherous ground with ease. Combined with her “magick” she is a formidable foe but should even this not be enough for her to prevail she will throw off her glamour and bring her full power to bear. Once revealed and free from the drain on her concentration maintaining her falsehood requires, Marie is a beast. Larger and stronger than any man she clambers over obstacles on her six tentacles, wrapping her enemies in their embrace and crushing the life from their bodies or hurling them into the air. Spitting curses in some unknowable tongue she withers men to dust where they stand or sees them consumed by vermin that seemingly crawl from thin air to engulf them.

When holding court in her bayou Marie is another person altogether as if the bestial creature that breaks men so contemptuously is but another glamour of hers. Here she is a tender and kindly figure to the swamp peoples of Louisiana. She is sage and midwife, mother and patron to those who share her homeland. She does not wear her glamour whilst on her home soil, the people she walks amongst knowing and loving her despite her appearance. With the same arms and tentacles, she would wring the life from a mortal soldier she cradles the children and newborn of the swamplands. Family means much to Marie Laveau for she has nurtured her people since they first arrived in her lands and she is never more terrible than when they are threatened. It is for that reason that the Union has not made a more concerted effort to move into her territories though they do not know the true nature of the forces that sabotage their forward posts or leave their pioneer forts little more than stinking charnel houses.

  • The Viridian have been at the forefront of Watcher Hegemony incursions across the galaxy for millennia. Though the Watchers take pains to leave no witnesses to their involvement in the shaping of sentient life, their likeness is captured in the crudely drawn cave paintings, diagrams from ancient manuscripts, petrified wood carvings and any other number of ancient records preserved for prosperity and displayed within museums or held as research material for universities on a number of worlds. On Earth their species has become known as the Locusts.

The Viridian Alpha is larger than its more numerous Locust kin. Its powerfully muscled frame is covered with a gnarled hide complemented with additional armour plates that incorporate various alien devices and defensive systems. It wields the Viridian Staff, a symbol of office and deadly weapon able to cleave a man in twain with a single blow. Mounted on the Viridian Alpha’s shoulders is a Reaper Array sporting two independently targeting energy weapons of terrible power.

The Watcher’s situation on Earth is dire. They have no contact with the greater Watcher Hegemony after the closure of their gate and as their plight grows raids against humanity become more numerous as materials are gathered and possible threats eliminated. Posses find themselves faced with a new threat as the alien invaders are encountered more frequently and their presence more brazen. The Viridian Alpha is quite the match for anything a group of weak and feeble humans might throw at him. To complicate matters further he often leads his Viridian Clade who harry their enemies on the ground and from the air. Those who have glimpsed the Viridian Alpha and been lucky enough to tell the tale have devised a number of colourful monikers for him, many of which would not be repeated in polite society.

The Viridian Alpha has ultimate responsibility and control over the martial forces of the Hegemony on Earth. This is a role for which he has been created, a process of genetic manipulation that has refined him into a formidable warrior and tactical genius. While he may not have the flexibility and creativity of humans (two of the attributes that have caused the Hegemony to notice Humans in the first place) his understanding of warfare is second to none and while the strikes and feints of the Watchers may seem random they are always part of a larger strategy.

The Grey are bred as foot soldiers, labourers, architects, engineers, spies, diplomats and scientists - whatever the Watchers need them to be. When circumstance causes the Watchers a need to rely on the Grey for military operations, they are birthed from gestation vats aboard their Arkvault or base of operations with Vermillion or Onyx traits spliced into their genome. This additional genetic material allows them to utilise a wide variety of sophisticated and deadly weapons. • After years of service in the field at the rank of Mimreg her fervent desire to serve the Order more fully was recognised by the Allshard. Fully aware of what Apotheosis to a Cor Caroli entails, Elita Nura desired her chance to join their ranks. Despite this, Nura was made a Sircan and given command of the Spica Astraea - the Portal Vanguard.

Within the Council she is considered a fractious zealot, a vocal challenger to the conservative doctrine espoused by High Sircan Abner. Unlike Abner, Nura believes that the last battle against the Hex fast approaches so she pushes for Phase Five of the Crusade to be enacted. As such, Nura's voice is the most extreme within the Order as she seeks to provoke a suitably devastating encounter with the Hex that would justify the declaration of Phase Five and all-out war.

When in the field acting as the Allshard's instrument she is equally impatient to bring about the unveiling of the Order's true mission. This reveals itself as a disdain for the use of subterfuge and stealth, instead portal jumping into combat directly and taking her foe unawares with the precise application of overwhelming force against those tainted by the Hex. Whether such taint comes from absorption of its essence or simply through being manipulated by the Dark Council, she cares not. The seismic powers of her Luminant Staff are more than capable of eliminating either type of foe. Let the Allshard sort them out.

In the years that followed the Ore War, there were hundreds of UR-30 Automen destined for alternative employment in power stations and other dangerous roles. It was Marshal Mariano Barela who first deployed UR-30’s as so-called 'lawbots'. Successful in a limited fashion, they were given a tin star, a brace of pistols and sanctioned for deployment to the care of marshals and sheriffs all across the Union. These Vitruvian Simulacra might lack the emotion and instinct of the flesh and blood deputies, but they know the law and that alone makes them excellent (and impartial) representatives of justice. Of course, having a metal skull and spinal column is extremely handy in an occupation where being shot at or having chairs broken over your head is commonplace.

    The UR-30 Lawbots kit builds three multi-part resin miniatures;

    • 3x UR-30 Lawbots
    • 3x Bases
