Mask making has been a long standing tradition in Venice, worn throughout the Carnevale festival. Since the Rent opened, the city has become even more secretive with citizens donning masks at all times of the day.

These masks have become as much a symbol of Venice as the Lion of St Mark, and it is thanks to the Mascareri that create them that the city has donned a new name: The City of Secrets. Not all mask makers create mundane pieces however, there are some who are more gifted in their talent- infusing their magical abilities into their creations.

There are few people that know these Mascareri exist and even fewer know their identity; though rumours about these so called 'magical masks' have started to be heard throughout Venice.

This box brings six new gifted heroes ready to disguise the gangs of Venice. Each one learnt their trade from their respective factions and are bringing these untold secrets to rival factions.

At the start of the game a mask maker can gift a gang member an ability from another faction, be it the slippery nature of the Guild, the stalwart protection of the Vatican's faith or the frenzied feeding of the Strigoi. Each one can greatly change the playstyle of your gang and are great addition to your collection.

Venice is home to many artists, but almost none of those are part of the Gifted. The Artist Maria Fioritura however has been affected by the rent and is now capable of bringing her paintings to life!

Maria Fioritura is one of the Gifted, people granted mysterious powers by the Rent in the Sky. Maria is a skilled artist, able to paint up her own Painted Protectors. These gesso guardians are incredibly tough knights, they're water soluble. Maria herself is a powerful mage, with access to 3 different disciplines as well as her own Creative Creation spell to summon her Painted Protectors.

Pierrot is the everyman, but everyone could be Pierrot. He's able to blend into the crowd and you're never quite sure where he could pop up next. If your opponent is using Pierrot he could be anywhere, that Gondoliere could be Pierrot, that Pierrot could be another Pierrot, even you could be another Pierrot!

Mario Petralone was a Venetian-born Nobleman. That is until he was caught in Florence during the appearance of the Rent in the Sky. He did not perish in that moment, but existed in a space between realms. Driven by grief and rage Mario possessed his own son. He grew into inky tendrils, completely overwhelming the young man as they speared into his eyes, nose, and throat. The effect was swift and lethal and the incorporeal noble gained control over his form, anchored to the anguish of his last remaining family member.

This set contains Black Spectre, a Gifted for hire. Able to drift through buildings, he can fly wherever he wishes, and drain the life from his opponents. With penetrative Spectral Touch and the ability to Stun opponents, very few will be safe from his grasp. Make no mistake: Black Spectre is one of the most powerful characters in all of Carnevale.

There are few tales as strange as that of Divuorafuoco and Burattino. So it goes that distraught after his family died in the calamity from the heavens, Divuorafuoco turned inwards to his craft. Left old and alone, he tried to recreate the happiness of a family, making a new son from the same tree as that which stood on his family burial ground.

Yet this would be no ordinary marionette. Given gifts from the Rent in the Sky, anything Divuorafuoco crafted would be cursed with life, and the puppet Burattino was born. An evil presence, imbued with the tortured souls of those Divuorafuoco lost, Burattino seeks vengeance on the living. Tied together with imperceptible strings, Divuorafuoco has no choice but to follow his own creation into the night, watching it butcher its way through Venice with an eerie silence.

This set contains Burattino (and technically Divuorafuoco too!), a Gifted for hire. A tiny fighter, this grisly puppet is an excellent Assassin. With strong attacks that can heal it, this diminutive monster counts everything as larger than it - particularly useful for its Hunter special rule, but a bit of a drag when it comes to being grappled or drowned!

Burattino is a Gifted character, which means it can join the Commedia dell'Arte to make a full gang. But as a Gifted, it can also be taken in any other faction, providing some surprising menace for a relatively cheap Ducat cost!

The Ospedale San Servolo is a terrifying place for the residents of Venice. The idea of being sent there is akin to a death sentence. The Doctors help residents as best as possible, but anyone too far gone is relocated, and rarely seen again. For the safety of everyone, of course.

Furthermore, rumours abound of the experiments done on the island. All unsubstantiated of course, but there is talk of a few individuals who have escaped. Tales are that they are barely people anymore, hiding horrors beneath their torn straitjackets. Only the bravest would seek these individuals out, more often than not they are simply seen in the dark, offering brief alliances for their own purposes.

This set contains an Escaped Madman. Fresh from San Servolo, the Escaped Madman has emerged from the other side of the lagoon a changed person. Hidden under the robes are masses of tentacles and glowing orbs that are overloading with power. It's not a great look!

In battle an Escaped Madman provides some hard-hitting combat ability, with the bonus of randomly exploding! A tough character, he'll mostly be unfazed, but be careful when using Will Points: once he runs out, he detonates in a magical blast, damaging anyone close by. Although after the overload, his gems recharge, allowing him to do it all over again!

A mysterious woman from far off lands, Fadhila keeps her private life exactly that. While she is the very life of parties (parties she's paid to attend), her history and true self are reserved for only her closest confidantes. Unlike her powers! Projecting protective bubbles she is able to shield those close to her from harm, and is always keen to show off her gifts.

This set contains Fadhila, a Gifted for hire. While Fadhila lacks in the offensive department, her Protective Bubble is able to offer excellent protection to any within range (just keep her away from enemies). She is also a talented Mage, controlling or healing as you might see fit.

It's not known who Fate nor Justice were before the Rent in the Sky opened. Whether they were simply people changed by the opening of that celestial rip, none will know.

Given their stoic and universal nature though, it's highly likely that these beings have existed for eons, and the magic of the Rent has simply given them corporeal form, or tied their essence to unlikely bystanders.

One thing is known about them though, and that's that once Fate & Justice mark you, they will not stop until you are dead. Their relentless nature is known to all, and if you become their quarry, they will not rest nor eat, pursuing you through day and night and even solid walls until Fate reads your name in his book, or Justice strikes you down with her Sword of Balance, restoring fairness to the universe.

Fate's slow speed is offset by magic attacks and the deadly Aura of Inevitability. Justice however favours a more direct approach, charging through walls to strike with her Sword of Balance: one of the most potent weapons in the entire game!

But as Gifted, they can also be taken in any other faction, becoming a real toolbox of useful abilities depending on the situation. And remember, while only one can be in play at the same time, if that one is killed, the other always appears after!

From White Dove to Black Spectre, the Gifted are an enigmatic group of individuals that sometimes come together to form a gang that is greater than the sum of their parts.

When that happens, there's no better way to ensure success than to represent the Gifted with your dice!

This pack contains 12 ten-sided dice; 10 in Gifted orange, and 2 Destiny dice in white. Each number is delicately etched on, with the Carnevale lion taking the place of the 10. Not only that, but the 7, 8, 9 and lion are filled in a complementary colour, making spotting Aces easier than ever!

The Harbinger, the Herald, Prophet... lots of names for the same being. This strange figure appeared in places around the world simultaneously, but only in one was he murdered. The assassin's blade tore open the Harbinger's chest, a gouge that tore open the heavens and reality.

In the years since, reports have cited a strange figure walking the streets of Venice. Looking at it is like looking through a hundred sheets of shattered glass as reality bends and breaks around the being. Seeming to now survive on multiple planes of existence at the same time, the Harbinger's Reflection is known to briefly aid some with supernatural knowledge before shattering into a thousand pieces in front of their eyes.

At one point the most powerful being in the world, the Harbinger was foolish enough to let their guard down and usher in an age of destruction. Or maybe they knew all along? Those are questions for another time. Probably a book, rather than a product description!

The Harbinger's Reflection is what is left behind, and while they're not all-powerful they're still a fantastic character to add to your gang! Able to shuffle around your Agendas is a super handy power in itself, but the Harbinger's Reflection can also use any number of Will Points to boost a single roll and replenishes Will Points when other characters use theirs! All this together provides a character who is surprisingly effective, and one that your opponents won't underestimate twice!

Harlequin is a Gifted character unlike any other. If your gang needs a little extra speed, look no further - but look quickly, because otherwise he'll be gone! Harlequin hits hard, but is very hard to hit. With the highest Dexterity in the game, your opponents will get increasingly angry at his antics - which sort of fits his personality perfectly!

Dabbling in magic is never an exact science. Every time a mage peers through the Rent in the Sky to draw eldritch energies from beyond, there’s a chance that the spell will do something else entirely, even when performed perfectly.

The Starspawn is what happens when a spell goes awry, summoned through from elsewhere into the world. A writhing mass of tentacles, mouths, and other appendages, a Starspawn is little more than a ravening beast. Although from a similar place to the Rashaar, it owes no loyalty to anyone, and at best it can be herded towards an enemy, though always with the worry it will turn and attack its "allies".

This set contains a Starspawn, one of the premiere magic hunters in Carnevale. With great attack ability, movement, and loads of special skills, its a force to be reckoned with. The real draw is the Thirsty rule though, which allows the Starspawn to move whenever an enemy mage casts a spell. Take that, witches!

This resident of the Ospedale reacted to treatment in a way previously unseen by any of the Doctors. The patient mutated and erupted into a mass of tentacles, destroying the lab and slaughtering its captors, leaving none alive that would be able to repeat the procedure. The creature disappeared into the night, with no witnesses to speak of.

This set contains The Aberration, a rather large Gifted. One of the strongest characters in Carnevale, the Aberration is best in the thick of the battle, surrounded by enemies. Its special rules pale in comparison to its 10 Will Points though - enough to splash out on most encounters and still not run out!

Known across the city as the Demolitionist, Boomer, Mistress Flame, or any number of other synonyms, this is no woman to mess with. Cursed with an unnaturally strong constitution by the Rent in the Sky, she barely feels pain, but is also stripped of many other senses. Her hearing and sight are dulled, and with so much of the world stripped from her, she strives to feel anything she can, resorting to further extremes to do so.

While her identity is a mystery, none would be surprised to know that her arson tendencies started before the Rent in the Sky opened, and now she is reacting to her powers in the only way she can, by falling further into madness, chasing light, sound, and the smell of gunpowder night after night. More than anything though, this bizarre figure loves to stick around her explosions, eager to feel the slightest hint of pain from the blazing fire.

This set contains The Demolitionist, a Gifted for hire. While she's wildly unpredictable, pointing her in the direction of people or buildings that need destroying is met with a gleeful laugh. Just be sure not to show her where you live or she'll likely show up there the next night!

With a bag full of bombs and complete disregard for her own safety, she is a dangerous character to face. The bombs are deadly, particularly to lightly armoured enemies or those likely to huddle together in a group. Beware though - her own safety will not stop her from dropping a bomb at her own feet!

The Duke is a man of opposites. His duality knows no bounds - offering service to those who need it one night, then turning on them for coin the next. Although obviously Gifted by the Rent, his powers are relative unknowns too - able to blend into his surroundings and disappear at will.

One of the most mysterious characters in a setting that revolves around secrecy and subterfuge, the Duke is a fighter with few equals. Able to command warriors around the battlefield while simultaneously using his unparalleled martial prowess to bring down even the toughest of enemies. And as a Gifted character, he can be taken in any gang, offering his services to anyone that needs them.

White Dove was the very first Gifted to reveal herself. In 1793 a great calamity hit the world. The Rent in the Sky tore apart the heavens, destroying most of Italy and flooding Europe. Only one place survived mysteriously unscathed: Venice. In the years since, the Floating City has become a beacon of hope and trade, even as the Rent gazes balefully down, putting the city into a permanent twilight. The residents have changed and adapted to a new world, a world of magic and monsters.

Creatures live deep in the canals, brought through the great tear in reality. These Rashaar are masked by the Church of Dagon, an openly benevolent sect whose home is in the flooded district of San Canciano, among the crumbling buildings and dirty canals.

But there are others in the city that suspect more is afoot. The Guild - a shadowy organisation of thieves and murderers - orders the citizens around. The Guild protect them from evils of the city, but the cost is their loyalty and servitude. The King of Thieves has sent a small gang into San Canciano to discover its secrets, but once they do, the Rashaar will try as hard as they can to make sure no one makes it out alive.
