• North of the wall horses are a somewhat rare sighting, which makes Harma Dogshead’s Vanguard all the more inspiring for the Free Folk. While lightly armored and crudely armed compared to southern troops, these cavalry units serve as more than outriders, being both scouts and spearheads to the Free Folk armies. Their greatest weakness is in fact their lack of armor, but this gives rise to their greatest strength: pure speed.

  • As if giants in the line-of-battle weren’t bad enough, the enemies of the Free Folk must also face giants standing in thr back and hurling spears the size of tree trunks. Their weapons are crude by southern standards, but one doesn’t need much finesse when hurling wooden shafts as thick as a large man’s torso. These powerful creatures can devastate even a heavily armored line, but they have trouble defending themselves from foes who get too close. Wise Free Folk commanders will guard them well and keep them far from enemy cavalry or fast-moving assault forces.

UNLEASH THE GIANTS: Add formidable ranged firepower to your Free Folk army with Giant Spear Throwers.

HIGHLY DETAILED MINIATURES: Exquisitely detailed pre-assembled miniatures for immediate play and painting.

TREE TRUNK SPEARS: These giants hurl spears the size of tree trunks, devastating heavily armored lines.

RANGED POWERHOUSE: Crude but effective, they rain destruction from the backlines.

PROTECT AND ATTACK: Guard them well from close-range threats and dominate the battlefield.

  • Among the most powerful Skinchangers beyond the Wall, Varamyr Sixskins commands a huge snow bear, three wolves, a shadowcat, and an eagle simultaneously. In battle he rides astride his great snowbear, commanding his various beasts in coordinated attacks. Nothing escapes his eagle’s gaze, nor his shadowcat’s patient stalking. Any that approach his person face a savage mauling. One may defeat the individual creatures, but Varamyr will find more. To face an ordinary skinchanger is to square off against a skilled combatant with their creature’s strength backing them up. To face Sixskins, one faces an entire unit unto themselves.

  • The Free Folk are a conglomerate group, consisting of many different northern tribes. Though they don’t all share the same ideologies or faiths, they do all have a shared goal: making a name and home for themselves in the southern parts of Westeros. Standing out from the average clansman are formidable adversaries, such as Barroq, a beast of a man who travels with his equally beastly Boar. The Great Walrus is well known for his skills in negotiation. And possibly most famous of all, Jon Snow seeks out his true destiny along the winding path that fate has taken him. Abel, the Bard, and his wife Dalla, make sure to sing their praises. These are but some of the individuals that have made a distinct name for themselves among the many faceless peoples of the Free Folk.

While being kicked by a destrier might be a worry, it doesn’t hold a candle to being mauled by a bear while its rider stabs at you with their spear. Enemies are sure to be in disarray when this monstrous cavalry unit makes it into battle.

  • The bulk of the Free Folk forces are made up of the everyday people of the various tribes. They don't have fancy metal armor. They don't relentlessly train and drill maneuvers. They barely have weapons, just scavenging a bit of bone or old swords from the battlefield. But what they lack in military tactics, they more than make up for in one thing: numbers. When the raiders come down from the north, they're like a tidal wave, overwhelming enemy defenses as they go. The Free Folk Raiders unit box for the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives Free Folk commanders a new option for the battlefield. The unit may not have the best stats in the game, but that means their low cost makes them very easy to combine with any force. The Raid Leader Unit Attachment adds to their deadliness, allowing another Fee Folk unit to activate directly after the Raiders do. • There are many strange and mystical creatures in the lands of Westeros. The Giants are among them. These massive creatures are just like humans, only much, much, much bigger. Anyone who says that size doesn't matter has never had to deal with a giant or two. As part of the Free Folk army, they are walking siege engines, battering entire enemy ranks with a single swing of their massive clubs. The Savage Giant unit box for the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives Free Folk Commanders two huge figures to add to their forces. The Savage Giant is both resilient and deadly. Their Mighty Swing doesn't allow for Defensive Saves, as it can bash through multiple troops with a single swing. The Giant is resilient, too, having five Wounds and only taking a wound for each two Hits it takes. Hurting the Giant just makes it mad, with its Mighty Swing doing more and more damage for each Wound the Giant has. • In Westeros, it's not just the men that will put their lives on the line out on the battlefield. Especially for the Free Folk, everyone is expected to do their part, and that's why the Spearwives units are created. But far from just feeble extras, the Spearwives have trained extensively with their weapons of choice, and can be just as deadly as any other soldier. Their short spears are light enough to even be thrown at the enemy, letting the Spearwives cut them down at range. But the real danger comes when they charge. Their sharp spears, with the momentum of a running start, can pierce even the toughest armor. Adding a seasoned Spearwife Matriarch to the unit only enhances their maneuverability. The Spearwives unit box for A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives Free Folk Commanders a new unit and unit attachment that they can bring to the battlefields of Westeros. • There are an unknown number of tribes that live north of the Wall. These tough and hardy people will often form up and head south, looking for more hospitable land to call their own. Unfortunately, there’s usually already people occupying that land. So, the Free Folk must be willing to fight for it. While mostly a motley crew, there are still tribal chiefs and other veterans that have honed their skills against the terrors in the far north. They bring that expertise to whatever unit they join up with.

  • The Free Folk in the north care not for the squabbles of the various Houses south of The Wall. These nomadic tribes will go where they please. And recently, they’ve been flowing their way into warmer climes. However, the people already in those lands don’t take kindly to what appears to be an invasion force. Both sides are arming for war.

The A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game Free Folk Starter Box has everything a player needs to start a Free Folk army. It contains two full units of Free Folk Raiders and Savage Giants, along with a unit of Free Folk Trappers. Additionally, it has various Unit Attachments, Commanders, and NPCs to customize what players field. • Skinchangers have the rare ability to project their consciousness into nearby creatures, altering their behavior. This can be used simply, perhaps having them perform tricks. But it can also be used in combat. It's bad enough when an enemy unit is advancing on your position. It's worse when that unit is flanked by giant wolves or bears. The Skinchangers unit box for the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game gives Free Folk commanders a new option for their armies. The Skinchanger Unit Attachment can be placed in any unit, ignoring usual Unit Attachment rules (so they can join a unit with another attachment already in it). When being added, the player can also add their animal unit to the table. When the Skinchanger's unit activates, the accompanying animal can activate immediately afterward, creating perfect "one-two punch" combinations. Just be sure that the two are never further than Long Range from one-another, or the Skinchanger is killed. Either situation will cause the animal to also be destroyed.

  • Most of the Free Folk's forces arm and armor themselves with whatever they can craft along the way to battle or steal off of their fallen enemies. The Thenn Warriors are different. They have forged their own bronze weapons and armor, making them the most heavily-armed troops in the Free Folk army. The Thenn Warriors unit box gives Free Folk commanders their arguably hardiest troops on the battlefield. Their increased armor has given them a sense of invulnerability, calling out Taunts to their enemies, causing charges to be targeted at them instead of other units. The Followers of Bone unit box gives Free Folk commanders a scary new unit to fill their ranks. The horrific visages of these warriors can cause enemies to shrink back instead of surging forward, making them take a Panic Test before they can attack the Followers. Add to that the Champion of Bone Unit Attachment that grants restored Wounds to the unit whenever an enemy fails a Panic Test when engaged with them, and the Followers can be a very durable unit, indeed. • The Free Folk are often framed as simple savages by those that live further south. In many instances, that evaluation is wrong. While the Free Folk don't harbor the trapping of much of civilization, they are not simply savages. The Cave Dwellers, though they are simply savages. The Cave Dweller Savages unit box gives Free Folk Commanders a new option on the battlefield. While the unit is armed simply with scavenged weapons they've found along the way to the battle, and are clothed in not much more than ratty old skins, they are still fearsome on the field, wading into combat with wild abandon. To further their fury, there is the Cave Dweller Alpha Unit Attachment, who can enhance the combat prowess of any unit they join.
