Sages and priests who studied the stars and bones of divination never knew that the powerful force known as Ma’Kid was an actual, living, breathing entity, rather than a force of extreme and violent destiny. Ma’Kid simply appears, unbidden, like a natural disaster, killing all in his path, leaving nought but destruction and annihilation in his wake. Ma’kid can almost always reach his target and does so by altering the entire battlefield. He can move many models out of his path, even applying the prone state while doing so. Ma’Kid wields two massive Temple gongs as shields, providing him with unprecedented protection for an Oni, and when combining both Parry and Tough, Ma’Kid can withstand some heavy hits.

Feared by his diminutive kin, Ka-Feng is a strange being who maintains a flourishing garden of underworld flora. Many of his otherworldly plants only grow in corpses, and Ka-Feng always

needs a steady supply. Now, the Council of Shadows has directed Ka-Feng to the surface world, allowing him to harvest for his garden in exchange for accomplishing their goals.

All of this has happened before and will happen again, so say the unaging sages in The Temple of Ro-Kan’s tower of eternal wisdom. The Temple has fought and defeated The Savage Wave before. The monks of old sealed the Oni world of Krazzor away from their own, but some of that old invading force remained here, trapped in the Jwar Isles. There are known to be precisely a dozen Oni Ancients, but The Temple knows only four names...

Many oni thirst for the favour of a kijo, and Tsuta knows how to drive her brethren to seek more extraordinary acts of violence and glory. As they throw themselves into battle, even if they fall, the oni grow stronger. Each battle awakens memories that have been dormant for an age, the spirits of oni who have gone before. Tsuta bears proof of the cunning of her past lives, wielding weapons that showed their worth generations ago. She throws heavy balls covered in strong spikes, lodging them in her foe’s armour and weighing them down long enough for her kin to close the distance and kill them. These weapons come from when the onis’ opponents -or they- wore armour. But no matter their heritage, they work well in Jwar against samurai and their armoured retinues.

If your warband doesn’t need these powerful ranged attacks combined with robust control when used on the right target, Tsuta’s Idolise Ki Feat is still a good enough reason to take her to war!

Bakemono are plentiful and expendable, and it’s The Gardener’s role to enhance these chittering beasts into furious war machines that go berserk in battle, seeing everything through a fungus-infused red mist. Mushrooms and Bakemono go claw in claw. Deep within the earth’s bowels, The Gardener, over countless years - and countless bakemono - has perfected the ratio of Red Claws to feed a bakemono that will result in the savagery of Foon Gus and not the usual tongue-extending death.

Foon Gus is so vile that even his bakemono brethren give him a wide berth, which is appropriate as he does not play well with others. Only through his sheer anger and Red Claw-fueled strength and savagery and what he does to their foes is he tolerated at all.

Like all bakemono, Foon Gus is cheap enough in Rice to be expendable; he can do some real damage while he’s around. In particular, he can be a great finishing model, charging into an exhausted, outnumbered enemy model. With the charge bonus to damage (Remember the Banzai! Trait!) and Strong, he can be a model to put the final boot into an enemy and kill them after some setup.

It is hard to tell if Xi-Han had lost his mind before or after he consumed every unusual mushroom he could find. The exact purpose of this pursuit remains a mystery. What is clear is that bizarrely he has managed to develop the ability to focus and force his body to replicate the effects of these rare and potent fungi. Sending his body into spasm and unleashing the deranged and violent “Zoo” for a short while to wreak havoc on his enemies. He also still maintains a constant supply of mushrooms on his person that he can throw in battle to Blind, Frighten or enrage anyone unlucky enough to inhale the spores.

In the darkness of the underworld, the Bakemono signal alarms and warnings over long distances using great horns. These are usually only used far below ground where no human would hear. Tu-ning has brought one of the great instruments to the surface, and for the first time, people have listened to the off-key and mournful note... though none have yet lived to tell of it.

The Bakemono know to go to the horn when it is blown, encouraging more to appear from the shadows and those fleeing to return to the horn as a place of safety in numbers, a rallying point if you will. Adding Tu-ning to your force gives the Rally Ki Feat, which is easy to use with the Ki-rich Bakemono Horde cards, also, the ability to summon an additional model per turn infuriates opponents!
