Add some serious firepower to your force with these missile-armed Ashigaru - bows to harass the enemy and muskets to unleash a fatal blast. If you like, combine them with the Samurai Warband set to form groups of three.

Upgrade the archers with the Protect the Muskets trait to help them work together with the guns or the Barbed Arrows trait to inflict horrible wounds on your foe (changes the Strike bonus to Deep Cut). Boost the musketmen with the Bojutsu trait, allowing them to treat their gun as a staff in melee.

Test of Honour is a skirmish wargame played on a tabletop battlefield, with roughly 10-20 models on each side. Players select their force before each game based around a hero – perhaps a samurai, a masterless ronin, or even a warrior monk – along with one or two loyal companions and a variety of followers, who could be anything from clan soldiers to peasants.

Battles are swift and bloody as players alternate acting with one of their warriors – moving and fighting to achieve the objective of the scenario, whether that be cutting down the enemy, defending an outpost or finding and protecting a spy.

As you play through the battles, your hero will use new skills, and perhaps even take the shameful path of deceit and trickery to gain victory – such choices are the ultimate test of honour.

The cards emphasise the unique character of the samurai, with Skills such as Salute Your Enemy, Death Poem, Spirit of the Ancestors and Heavy Armour, and Quests including Blood Feud and Head-Taker. The new Honour and Dishonour cards allow your samurai to impress or bring shame to their clan - gaining or losing a Skill card.

The warriors represented in this box can be used with other Sohei forces, Ikko Ikki rebels, as well as allied samurai clans. These zealous believers do not fear death and fight even harder if their brethren are slain.

Superior Saburo leads the defence of the temple-fortress, galloping at his enemies to deliver a devasting one-off attack with the Dive Strike card. 

The Sohei sergeant can send his troops surging forward in a sudden wave (or unleash a sudden blast of gunfire if you use him as a gunnery sergeaant) - a definite contrast to the steady ashigaru of the clans. 

Meanwhile the Creed Bearer carries a banner daubed with inspiring prayers and religious slogans, making it more likely for nearby believers to trigger their Strike bonuses.

The devout Temple Guards themselves are the toughest fighters, hand-picked from among the warrior monks and able to shrug off minor injuries and carry on the battle unaffected. You can make them even harder to defeat with the Final Guardians trait!

Skill cards include Holy Relic, Hallowed Walls and Power from Grief.

Takeda Shingen is the famed Daimyo of the Takeda clan, innovator of tactics and masterful general - beckoning with his war fan he orders other nearby cavalry models forward into the fray.

The Noble Onna Bugeisha performs a galloping charge to strike the enemy at great speed.

The Samurai Linebreaker crashes into the foe, bludgeoning them to the ground with his heavy club.

The Samurai Champion steps forward in his sinister mask to cleave down his enemies with his fearsome nodachi (heavy sword).

The Falconer sends his sharp-eyed bird to seek out cowardly foes who sneak and hide from honourable combat. The loyal falcon also retaliates if its master is attacked.

The Tutor's lessons provide one of your characters with a choice of Skill card - Study of Ethics, Tactics or History - each offering a useful bonus. His wise advice helps those nearby choose the best target, while his great age and reputation make it highly dishonourable to attack him.

The warriors in this box can be used as a complete force or mixed with other troops.  

Don't forget that you can use all Skill cards with a Path icon that matches one of your characters. This means that there are a host of useful cards in the Clan Forces pack that synergise perfectly with those in this set.
