Executioners rarely live in the towns where they work. Most prefer anonymity, while others are open about what they do. However, their association with death leaves them all but outcasts by the villagers, as it seems death’s scent follows them, tarnishing their every interaction. While some in the profession remain detached, seeing it as justice served rather than a life lost, others revel in the killing. In Nintoku's case, he never shies from telling the locals his profession or how much he enjoys ending the lives of those sentenced to death. By doing this, he fulfils his bargain with Yurie.
Still, no matter how many perish at his hands, satisfaction is always out of reach, leaving his dark thirsts unslaked, even when ending those from the higher classes, the classes that look down upon him and those of his ilk.
