Halfling Wizards are a rare and odd bunch. Trained in the colleges of magic along with all the other races, even rarer still are those that don't enjoy the bustling college life. Considering college is one big party (which for a Halfling = feast), it's rare. Sometimes those reclusive individuals pursue the art of necromancy. Huddled away in dark rooms they study the ancient practice of raising the dead. Of course, we live in a modern fantasy world where that sort of thing isn't actually as edgy as it used to be - there's a whole campus dedicated to the discipline. More often than not though, a Halfling like that will stay in their room, listening to weird music, before running back to Deathly Pastures to practice raising the dead. Invariably at the head of a shambling army of undead Halflings is a creature of great power, and a Vampire Lord is one such being. Halfling Vampire Lords aren't mindless killers though, and actually foster an endearment among Halfling villages, as they rarely drink their blood. Standing guard around Deathly Pastures Cemetery State, the Spear Guard are a stoic bunch. Toting a banner in the hordes of a Halfling Skeleton army is less about honour, and more about practicality. You see, skeletons don't see particularly well. Their eyes long ago fell out, and although they now have magical ones, they're not super good at perception. So it is that a banner bearer isn't just a matter or pride, but necessity. Getting brightly coloured sheets is a must for these Undead Halflings, as it gives them a good reference point to follow into battle. Provided the bearer knows where they're going that is.

The skeletons of Deathly Pastures are a familiar sight to the Halflings of Craggy Bottom. Their long deceased ancestors, risen again from the grave. Of course, the Halflings don't give much attention to them mostly. More often than not the complaints aren't about the dead walking in an unholy fashion, but that the wails keep them up at night.

The Trained Bands are the most common troops in the Shire Army. Many so-called Braves that are drafted to the Bands are not full-time soldiers, although they are better trained than some militias found elsewhere. They typically have padded leather armour and wooden shields or bucklers, and carry a variety of weapons.

Some Trained Bands are organised and equipped as light cavalry riding highly trained miniature aralez. Their primary mission is scouting and skirmishing, but on the battlefield they will harass the enemy with ranged fire and protect the army’s flanks, charging into melee if absolutely necessary.

Perhaps the most daring troops in a halfling army are the Ej Grenadiers. Using their mechanical-wings, these hot-blooded individuals swoop over the battlefield like huge birds of prey, raining down destruction with their firebombs before dropping into the midst of the chaos they have created to wreak more destruction.

Craggy Bottom and Little Skjarr have a colourful relationship, but it's more one of friendly rivalry. Indeed, in a show of good faith, Little Skjarr accepts any and all foster children from Craggy Bottom (usually when the parents can't feed them the state-required 15 meals per day). These adopted Skjarrians learn the ways of the highland forest, and are taught the customs of Little Skjarr before returning to their birthplace, vicious fighters with a taste for the wild side.
