  • The Apex Hellions are truly the height of Caym's hellion design, often used as lieutenants, or more accurately pack leaders, for his forces. Apex Hellions fly in on great mechanical wings tearing apart their targets without remorse or any emotion apart from hate amplified by whatever processes Caym uses to control these soaring terrors. They are the first to engage the enemy, urged on by a monstrous will that only seeks to tear and rend. While they lack the ability to employ ranged weapons, their Hellion Evicerators are more than enough to tangle up an opponent before ripping them apart in a hideous display of slaughter. Science untempered by ethics is a horrifying thing.

  • The line between madness and genius is a fine one. Often an invention thought outlandish and unusable, has subsequently become almost commonplace. It is a time when the Covenant of the Enlightened discovered Sturginium and introduced RJ-1027 to the world and made marvels of engineering such as automata and iron horses. There are always those looking to push boundaries further and be noticed in such a world where remarkable contraptions such as the Strider-Cav walk the earth. In the case of the Prussian scientist Ludwig Berblinger, it was the notion of 'walking the earth' that he sought to challenge. When he was declared persona non grata by the Teutonic Knight Luminaries after his demonstration crashed their prototype Jaeger aerial destroyer, Berblinger joined other ostracised Prussian intellects in turning to the Enlightened. His greatest offering was the Sickle Gyro Cav, a feat that he was certain would fly into a future where Berblinger's genius eclipsed all others. The Sickle featured a surgically modified pilot permanently integrated into Berblinger's flying machine. After several spectacular failures, the design soon saw use across the Enlightened's holdings for reconnaissance and as an extremely mobile weapons platform. The Sickle's gyro-stabilized engines, refined from the drives used in the larger Scythe drone fighter, allow the nimble craft to speed through the air as easily as it can hover in place. For offensive purposes, the Sickle can be outfitted with similar armaments to those found on Iron Horses. Most often the Sickle carries paired gatling guns to enable it to strafe a target as it flies. The roar of its engines and bark of its guns are usually the first and last sounds that enemies of the Enlightened will hear at its arrival.

  • Augmentation to overcome injury or disability was the goal of the Covenant of the Enlightened when they first began to experiment with grafting mechanisms to flesh. The power source known as RJ-1027 enabled the Covenant to take this intention to an extreme with more audacious and extensive modifications being possible. In the hands of a master of this art, it truly allows individuals to be elevated to super-human levels of physical conditioning. For everyone not so fortunate, this has led to the development of people termed as 'constructs'. Gradual RJ-1027 leakage into their bloodstream, along with the trauma of their surgical augmentation has left the vulnerable transformed into something less than human. But everything has a purpose in the Covenant's technocratic future and constructs have a wide variety of menial or military applications throughout the Enlightened's activities.

Some constructs had their legs and lower torsos replaced with motorised mono-wheels, commonly called Seekers, or with multiple articulated steel limbs, who became known as Widowers. Of course, the arrogance of some in the Covenant led to such science and engineering being pushed to greater extremes. If a construct could control a simple motorised mono-wheel, then why not integrate one into an RJ powered, gyro-stabilized weapons platform? The Mono-Cav was born. Armed with a pair of heavy Manreapers, the Mono-Cav excels at rapid response, it speeds across the battlefield with it's limbless pilot remaining eerily still thanks to an advanced stabiliser suite. Utilising the same methodology is the Strider-Cav, a natural advancement of the Widower construct. Four pneumatic legs power it forward, resembling a sinister steel spider. Men's blood runs cold with fear as they know they could be caught up in the webs it launches, or worse, torn to shreds by the industrial dills mounted on the front of this mechanical monstrosity.

  • Vladamir Ursul could have lived out the rest of his life in peace, tending his small plot of land and hunting in the forests that surround it. Destiny, however, had other plans for him. As a young man Vlad enlisted for the Commonwealth Army and found that his upbringing in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and experience as a trapper and huntsman served him well in his new role as a forward scout and picquet. Vlad left the raising of his son, Roman, to his wife while his path took him into the service of his brother-in-law, the Enlightened scientist Burson Carpathian. When Vlad was reunited with his son nearly two decades later, he fully intended to settle down and make up for lost time but Roman was a stranger to him and their lives were so radically different that Vlad struggled to find a way to fit in with the lad.

During his formative years Roman Ursul was given the best education possible. Following the work of Burson Carpathian and the Covenant of the Enlightened, Roman grew to be a brilliant young man. He dreamed of a chance to impress Carpathian, seeing him as both mentor and father-figure, even though they had barely corresponded. Despite these efforts, however, Carpathian was a difficult man to impress and following the death of his wife Veronica he became obsessed by some “great work” that Roman was mostly excluded from. This obsession made it even more difficult for Roman to receive the attention and recognition he craved but his own work on human / machine integration became all the more advanced as a result.

Roman’s psychopathy truly took hold at the age of 19. What began as inspiration in the form of a demon named Caym; an amalgam of man and bird, soon turned into an obsession of his own to mirror that of his uncle’s. Upon discovering Caym in his studies, Roman began to work towards creating a way for man to fly with wings of his own. His initial focus was on his own flight harness but while this gave some amount of gliding ability it was not the same as true flight. The desire to soar amid the clouds was a strong lure and Roman wanted to find a way of attaching mechanical wings to a human frame whilst still keeping the original personality of the subject. This last part was extremely difficult to achieve as most Creations, Menials and other experiments made by the Enlightened, especially Carpathian’s own work, retained very little of the person they once were. As Roman worked on this problem without respite, the alter-ego of Caym began to assert greater dominance. This process was completed just before he left London to follow Carpathian and his father to the Americas. In the process of trying to stop a serial killer’s murderous spree on the streets of Whitechapel, he began to see that only the strongest mind is capable of such depravity and in order to truly free his potential he must follow that path. Thus, in an East London backstreet, Caym was born and Roman Ursul was left behind.

In the New World, meeting with his uncle and reuniting with his father, Caym was emboldened to take more risks in his experiments and despite the mounting human cost, he produced breakthrough after breakthrough. Taking principles of his own flight suit and refining the methods of Kyle the Black and others in the Enlightened, Caym created Hellion, a blending of man and winged machine. Gifting a flock of such constructs to his uncle caused Carpathian to take notice of what Caym was achieving. Such recognition was bittersweet as Carpathian soon lost interest once he realised that the application of this new technology would not significantly further his own work as the Hellion lacked higher brain functions, much like the other augmented meniels and henchmen the Enlightened constructed. Undeterred by this Caym continued and when a young Warrior Nation woman sought him out he had his true success.

Whitewing was destined to be a Peyasa Spirit Walker, and belonged to the same tribe as Alcon and his daughters. Despite their assistance, each time she attempted the ritual she was rejected by the Great Spirit. Alcon claimed that she had a shadow following her and she would never walk the path of a Spirit Warrior. Fleeing her tribe in shame she heard rumour of Caym’s experiments and pleaded with him to succeed where Alcon had failed and let her fly. Caym recognised a dark side to her that mirrored the one that resided within himself, and knew that she had the conviction needed to pass through the process intact. He was right. The surgery and full integration with the RJ fuelled machinery was a success and Whitewing became his most trusted lieutenant and companion.

Now all Caym needed was the recognition he deserved. After murdering his uncle, Caym came to appreciate that death for those of value to the Covenant was not as permanent as it might have otherwise been. Carpathian was brought back from the brink of death by Kyle the Black and Augusta Byron, cursed thereafter with psychotic killing rampages as often as genius lucidity. Now Caym is on the run from his murderous uncle and trying to keep one step ahead of those who would turn him in. Not willing to lose his son and unable to calm the raging Carpathian, Vlad has gone into exile along with Caym, in an attempt to keep his only son alive where his skills as a frontiersman, hunter and trapper are invaluable.

Following his success with Whitewing and now free of any oversight by the Enlightened, Caym developed a new higher breed of Hellion - the Apex Hellion. While not as free thinking and perceptive as Whitewing, these winged marvels still retain much more of their will than other Constructs and their effectiveness as killers and ambush predators is without equal.

    • 1x Whitewing

  • Associate members of the Covenant of the Enlightened do not enjoy the respect or prestige that Covenant Peers do, but they are often the ones who do most of the leg work. In order to be officially recognised as an associate of a Peer, an individual will have to put in hours of thankless research and errand running for their sponsoring Peer. Of course like all who are drawn to the Enlightened, being in possession of a keen mind and a drive to push the boundaries of human understanding is a prerequisite. But associates often lack the opportunity or financial means to secure an actual Peerage in the Covenant.

Girauld Eres was one such associate, a Parisian naturalist who had developed into a minor celebrity as he toured Paris society with his collection of primates. Girauld's real passion lay in animal physiology and his personal menagerie was home to some impressive specimens. Showing a talent for specimen capture, he was approached by Warick Hudson and earned a sponsorship into the Covenant as an associate following his collaboration on the spectral containment technology with Hudson and Katherine Holst.

The night of his accident, Eres was working in his laboratory on a skin healing accelerant that went horribly wrong. When the beaker exploded, the chemicals that sprayed over him were not yet mixed correctly and began to eat away at his flesh. Fortunately Eres had been playing host the evening before to Xavier Bichat, an elderly Enlightened Peer. When Bichat was brought back to the house, it was already too late. Girauld’s skin had already been flensed from a large part of his body. Fortunately, Bichat was a keen study of the restricted galvanic arts, having reanimated a simian construct just the previous evening for Girauld’s entertainment. With a very little time remaining Xavier was forced to use that same construct to hold Eres’ brain.

The process was rushed and Xavier’s knowledge of the techniques involved were far from extensive. As a result Eres retained very little motor function in his new body and so, staggering like a victim of a massive stroke or palsy, Eres was conveyed by sea to Countess Augusta Byron in the Union of Federated States. The journey brought him close to death and his brain would not survive the trauma of a second transplant, so Girauld had little choice but to submit to a number of surgical procedures by the Countess that allowed him to regain greater control of the body, with the exception of his left arm. That was rectified by a prosthetic that gave Girauld significantly increased strength to further augment the exceptional size of his primate body..

Although Girauld was grateful to still be alive it would be impossible to return to Parisian society in his new form. He therefore spent some time in the Badlands of the Union, where open spaces away from others were plentiful. One advantage of having the body of a 700lb gorilla was a vastly increased strength. Girauld was a sickly child and life as an academic did nothing to increase his vitality so the change was significant. He realised that he could snap small trees, lift large rocks and even hurl a man bodily more than 30 feet through the air. He discovered that last fact when a group of American hunters mistook him for a trophy animal.

It was while in the Badlands during the Atlas Affair that the outlaw Jim Petersen gave him the nickname of Mr Ears. So extraordinary were the circumstances of their adventure together that the name was quickly adopted in the local press and a year later when President Johnson awarded them both the inaugural Presidential Medal of Freedom, it was presented in the name of Mr Ears.

With a new found sense of purpose, Mr Ears joined with Warwick Hudson and the rest of the ‘Soul Hunters’ on their expedition to Antarctica. Armed with the wrangling tools he developed during the Atlas Affair, Mr Ears is determined to study the reported megafauna discovered in the Lost World and create a new menagerie of wonders to show to the world.

  • The Covenant of the Enlightened is possibly the most exclusive club in the world. Bright young thinkers and scientists clamour for an introduction into its ranks and yet an incredibly small number make the grade. A brilliant mind is not the only prerequisite for entry. The Charter of the Covenant is quite clear on this point. A certain level of upbringing and financial backing are also qualities that are demanded from any potential candidates. They are, after all, looking to make the world a better place and bring the teeming masses into the brave new future of science.

The Charter of the Covenant of the Enlightened permits another method by which a keen mind might gain access to membership of that intelligentsia. Personal recommendation of a fellow Peer. Through this, Burson Carpathian has granted himself carte blanche on who he elevates to the ranks of the Covenant. In this manner, he has surrounded himself with an eclectic group of sociopathic geniuses who swear fealty to him.

Kyle Tanner, known as Kyle the Black because of the colour of his soul, is one of these individuals. The man's drive to further his own knowledge and abilities are tempered only by the occasional chiding from his patron, Carpathian. With no conscience or inhibitions, Kyle's experiments are run using the quantity over quality principle. The name of his Promethean Complex; The Abattoir, is a direct reflection on his habits and to see his impressively rotund frame is to know that he is a man of insatiable appetites.

As a young man, Tanner served in the 24th Infantry Division under Colonel MacArthur and had used that position to further his experiments in augmenting the human form. What should have been a way to give wounded veterans a second lease of life was corrupted into a way to 'improve' the soldiers so that they could fight longer, harder and more efficiently. This culminated into weapons and armour directly grafted into the screaming meat that passed through his battlefield hospitals. Wishing greater control over his constructed henchmen and menials, Kyle began to perform lobotomies to remove a good deal of idle thought and free will in his subjects. When this work was uncovered MacArthur attempted to have Tanner court marshalled. The disgraced Union medic fled after compelling his latest experiments to attack the camp and cover his escape. It was in a wretched state; battered, disgraced and hungry that Tanner fell into the employ of Carpathian.

Kyle is now at liberty to continue refining his talents for creating constructs, mostly from seriously maimed or injured people, but sometimes from fit and healthy individuals down on their luck or heavily in debt. Kyle's experiments are not limited to others either, he has grafted a pair of additional servo arms to his torso, equipped with claws and saws, that allows him to work even while feeding his capacious appetite. Naturally, these additional appendages assist him in combat should he ever be unable to avoid it, making Kyle the Black a formidable adversary in melee.

Virgil Earp is respected as a Lawman, respect earned by his own merits as well as his family connections. His alliance with Kyle the Black became necessary when Virgil and his younger brother Morgan were gunned down in Tombstone. Without the assistance of Kyle the Black, Morgan would have surely died and Virgil would have lingered the rest of his life as a cripple. But a bargain was struck with Kyle and the egomaniacal Carpathian. In this pact, Virgil paid for his brother's life with his own. Virgil became beholden to Kyle and Carpathian, forced to intercede on behalf of the Enlightened in the Arizona Territory and smooth over any disputes they might cause. This service is direct at times, especially when Vigil has found himself employed as little more than a bodyguard for one of the Covenant in times of need.

Kyle the Black rarely needs to venture out of his facilities, except to see Doctor Carpathian or when searching for materials for his research. On such occasions, he is accompanied by a large retinue of constructs to provide protection and carry out his every whim. Anyone who wants to take a shot at Kyle will need to get past this fleshy tide of meat shields, or become part of it. It is common after a bandit ambush for Kyle and his band of constructs to return to the Abbatoir in greater numbers than when they left.

    The Meat Grinder Posse kit builds seventeen multi-part resin and Plastic miniatures;

    • 1x Kyle the Black
    • 1x Virgil Earp
    • 10x Constructed Menials
    • 5x Constructed Henchmen
    • 17x Bases

  • To the common man, the Covenant of the Enlightened are little more than an exclusive club of intellectuals and aristocrats who sit in grand drawing rooms talking much and doing little. While the Covenant are at great pains to show that the reality is far removed from this, it must be acknowledged that there are some groups within the Enlightened who more closely resemble this stereotype than they would like to admit.

One such group of these is the Hook and Ladder Club in New York City, so named due to their premises being located in a building that was originally destined for the nascent Fire Department. The club members specialise in the emergent field of parapsychology, a subject that the common man might call supernatural.

The club's current Auger, Warwick Hudson, leads all manner of discussions and theorising into matters ephemeral and improbable. Like the club's founders, Hudson believes that all things can be explained by applying the scientific method. He maintains that they are in an age of Industrial 'super-science' and that any reports of strange and mysterious happenings from the "Wild West" of America or the "Lost World" of Antarctica are simply exaggerated or misunderstood by unreliable witnesses.

Under the terms of his sponsorship by the British aristocrat, Lord Buckland, Auger Hudson is required to have his scientific merits officially recognised and that will require fieldwork. Hudson has been working for many months to assemble his team and to prepare them with such equipment as the most dangerous of environments and situations require. Armed with an array of esoteric and highly experimental weaponry, Hudson is set upon venturing forth and collecting enough data to present to the Hook and Ladder Club, therefore securing himself a position as a Peer of the Covenant in his own right. Hudson and his Soul Hunters (as the lurid press would daub them) follow up reports of 'spectral etherics' around the globe. Major expeditions are underway to both the Badlands of the Union as well as the Antarctic interior.

At Auger's right hand is Erin Meltzer, a scientist and researcher with a passion for uncovering the unknown that almost burns as bright as his own. She is particularly fascinated by reports in the Badlands of Montana of animals growing to an almost impossible size and imbued with some etheric properties. Ernesto Volk is similarly obsessed with the physical, though more often his thoughts are of his own impressive physique and he has a reputation in the club as a pugilist of some renown, a skill he developed while he studied at University in Greenwich Village.

Hans Spelmann is the quiet, contemplative member of the group and will often only contribute to a discussion when he deems it a necessity. The newly discovered flora and flora of the Lost World is of great interest and he believes that the energies that have brought about such fantastical evolution are linked to the spectral anomalies found elsewhere. Jocasta Tobin is the writer and archivist of the Hook and Ladder Club, she documents all of their research and theories and promises to one day publish them as a guide to future investigators into the unexplained. Finally, Katherine Holst is the engineering risk-taker and the most outgoing of them all. It was Holst who collaborated with the French scientist Girauld Eres (before his terrible accident) and made possible the spectral containment technology on which their research now relies so heavily upon.

    The Soul Hunters Detachment kit builds six multi-part resin miniatures;

    • 1x Auger Warwick Hudson
    • 1x Erin Meltzer
    • 1x Ernesto Volk
    • 1x Hans Spelmann
    • 1x Jocasta Tobin

  • Creation VII was the result of a visit by Countess Augusta Byron to the Antarctican coast. An evening of parlour games at Leonidas Spire involving Absinthe and Phrenology turned into a wager with her host, Fairuza Moreaux, to create something that would prove twice the ability of any one of Moreaux's creations. Taking her host's challenge literally, Creation VII was the result of an ingenious fusion of two of the most brutish and towering specimens Moreaux had available. None could dispute that the result was impressive, even compared to other such marvels of galvanic application. After being lauded by the Enlightened of Leonidas Spire, the Countess made the request that her new creation would accompany her home and enter into her service there. Despite Lord Sturgeon's insistence that no new technology created on the continent could be removed from it without his permission, Moreaux readily agreed. After all, the vivisectionist was confident she could replicate what she had seen of the Countess' work.

Creation VII has a number of innovations over previous monstrosities. Reinforced spinal braces have given Creation VII a supremely erect posture that allows for four weapon arms to be brought to bear against targets, something that is impossible with similarly massive creatures with their stooped gaits, such as Creation V.

Thanks to the combined mental power of a series of slaved logic engines directly interfaced with the necrotised cerebral tissue of the two original donors, Creation VII is capable of independent, if not erratic, action.

This not only allows Creation VII to use all of its extra limbs simultaneously, but it also has the ability to carry out more complex orders than its contemporaries and to act apart from its designated controller. There is a drawback to this design, the two anonymous head donors do not always agree on the same course of action, causing Creation VII to sometimes grind to a halt in the middle of its assigned task. This inactive stance can be extremely inconvenient if it happens in the heat of battle. Unless the heads can resolve their conflict quickly or their handler directly intervenes, Creation VII can remain frozen mid-action for extended periods whilst battle rages around it.

Boosted muscle mass and additional pneumatic bracing means that the weapons Creation VII carries into battle are suitably large and brutal. For attacking at long range it is equipped with a Razorspine Rotor, a heavy rotary cannon that fires specially designed shells that splinter apart after leaving the barrel, creating an expanding line of razor-thin spines propelled forward at speed. For medium range, Creation VII is fitted with an incendiary spray cannon that fires a sticky liquid that erupts into flame when it makes contact with air. The mixture adheres to whatever it lands upon and even burns underwater.

It is up close, however, that Creation VII is most dangerous. Its upper right arm ends in an Industrial drill while its left is fitted with an industrial grade double buzzsaw. So versatile is this combination of weapons and tools that Countess has often had cause and compensation to lend this tireless behemoth to her fellow Lords and Ladies. Indeed many of the deeper tunnels beneath the Warcradle are thanks to Creation VII.

  • The Phonic Blaster Menials are a combination of Carpathian's own tried and tested method of creating menials and Thomas Edeson's sonic technology. Edeson has taken advances in communications and applied his own considerable intellect to expand the field of sonic based technology. His most significant achievement to date has been the development of the Phonic Blaster; a highly versatile weapon capable, if the frequency is right, of rupturing eardrums, skin and also internal organs.

These constructs advance unerringly towards the enemy and can lay down an assault of sound capable of rupturing flesh and bone as well as armoured targets, by simply changing the frequency of their Phonic Blasters.

  • One of the most influential figures in the Covenant of the Enlightened, Burson Carpathian was a man on who the very Dystopian Age would hinge upon. Carpathian cared not for such things. His obsession over the past decade was in researching and challenging the very laws of nature so that he might be able to restore to life his beloved wife Veronica. Such a destiny was denied him one fateful night at the hands of his own nephew, Roman Ursul.

Ursul (now going by the name Caym) assassinated his uncle while Carpathian was speaking to an assembled audience of Enlightened Peers. Expecting to be lauded as the new head of the Enlightened, Caym had badly misread the situation and was forced to flee before retribution could be met out against him. The damage was done, however, and it was clear that Carpathian was mortally wounded. Kyle the Black, and Countess Augusta Byron, worked tirelessly on the dying scientist for three days. Miraculously, the pair managed to bring him back from the brink of death, though he was forever transformed. Most of Burson's body was damaged beyond repair and his brain was also heavily damaged.

Utilising the latest scientific and engineering breakthroughs, Carpathian is sustained in a reshaped body and mind. In his new incarnation, Carpathian's physical form is formidable. His new hands can crush bone with little effort and his Atomic Minigun is capable of laying down a hail of irradiated bullets. The most formidable aspect about Carpathian remains his mind, however, where he was once calculating and detached, he is now fickle and irrational. He will often erupt in spontaneous rages or moments of inconsolable misery. His closest allies are now fearful of his reactions to the smallest disappointments and his enemies are now fearful of this new more powerful and more unpredictable foe.

As for Caym, while he has not been seen in the Frontier since that fateful day, there is no doubt a reckoning still to be had.

  • The inventor Thomas Edeson has a knack of developing technology pioneered by others and refining it as his own. Coupled with a shrewd understanding of the politics within the Enlightened, his place at the heart of Burson Carpathian’s Egalitarian theology is assured.

Edeson has taken advances in communications and applied his own considerable intellect to expand the field of sonic based technology. His most significant achievement to date has been the development of the Phonic Blaster; a highly versatile weapon capable of rupturing eardrums, skin and also internal organs if the frequency is right. The experimental Aural Projectors he personally wields are even more powerful.

A laboratory accident in his youth left him deaf to the world. Not one to let human frailty defeat him, Edeson developed a new hearing device to overcome his disability. While fine-tuning the device during a trip to the ballet, Edeson became entranced by Mina Miller, the ballerina of the company. He fell in love with her and the pair were soon married. Dancing was Mina’s passion and as he worked he would often ask her to dance in his workshop in a private performance as his muse. When Mina was struck down by Polio, the science of the Enlightened saved her life, but she was forever mentally and physically debilitated by the disease. Desperate to see his wife smile, Thomas arranged for Gustave Eiffel to create her a new pair of legs and improve her body. The operation was a success and Mina is now more devoted than ever, tirelessly dancing for Edeson as he works long into the night. If Edeson has to travel, Mina usually accompanies him, now his lethal protector as much as a muse…

  • Born and raised in the hills of Northern Mexico, Pancho Villa was the oldest of five children and grew up in comparative poverty. He learned from an early age that the best way to get noticed was by making the most noise. As he grew from boy to man, his hair-trigger temper dictated his path. Angry and embittered by what he saw as the hand Fate had dealt him, he took it upon himself to change his own destiny. A passion for improving his lot and a penchant for powerful ‘juiced’ weaponry drove him to acts of theft and banditry during which he became a stone-cold murderer of his fellow man. Despite his new-found status as a killer, Villa found he was not reviled. Indeed, despite his occasional cruelty, he had somehow become a local hero. In order to advertise his wealth and success to all who see him, Pancho became known for his expensive attire and flashy gold embroidered outfits.

The years passed by and Pancho Villa’s myth grew beyond local borders. He became a revolutionary, a land-owner, eventually becoming rich and powerful. Though he still planned the lightning raids his posses committed on other landowners, as he got older he took a less front line role. His growing army engaged in bolder and more daring acts with each passing year. Eventually, Mexico was no longer large enough for him. Villa had heard of the prospectors in the United States and their rush to find their part of the riches offered by the seams of natural resource the country offered. He wanted his share and, as far as Pancho Villa was concerned, his share was ‘all’.

In his relentless drive north, he has gathered a considerable force behind him and is no longer content to lead from the back. His new followers include the deadly pistolero Heraclio Bernal, known as the Thunderbolt of Sinaloa, The Fearless Desperado Procopio, for whom killing was a pastime, the revolutionist Rosaria Mendes, whose message can be heard far and wide and Catalina Romero, hunter, trapper and crack shot with a rifle.

Villa has taken up his Gatling gun and stands at the head of what has become known as the Golden Army, as their undisputed patriarch.

    The Golden Army Posse builds seven multi-part resin miniatures;

  • One of the most influential figures within the Enlightened (though acknowledging there may be others is not an advisable notion to air in his presence), Gustave Eiffel has been working to carve out his own power base within the Egalitarian movement from the moment he arrived in the West. Seeing fealty to the Egalitarians as a way to break free of Lord Sturgeon’s constricting Custodian theology, Eiffel has embraced the wide proliferation of RJ-1027 that his fellow Egalitarian Enlightened promote.

Over recent years, the field of advanced mechanical augmentations has become an obsession for him. Building on his original Widower constructs, he now works feverishly pursuing the next great breakthrough in the field.

Reluctantly tearing himself away from his iron wrought creations, Eiffel enters battle piloting a spider-like combat chassis of his own design. Rumours persist that this is but a prototype for a much larger articulated colossus to rival those of the military powers of the world, a machine to stride across the Union bringing the influence of the Enlightened to every part of the continent, and beyond...

  • The greatest scientific minds of a generation have allied themselves into the Covenant of the Enlightened. A powerful coterie of genius that spans the globe.

Humanity is facing countless dangers from the avarice of powerful individuals, the ambition of emerging superpowers and the influence of extra-terrestrial entities. It is the Enlightened who apply their brilliance to unlock the secrets of their enemies and harness the incredible to the service of mankind.

Through science, death is held at bay with the mortally wounded restored as a construct in service to the Lords and Ladies of the Enlightened.

Through science, energy is brought to the masses with the discovery of superconductive materials and the commercial availability of RJ-1027 power cells.

Through science, the simple morality of good and evil is shown to be meaningless. Only by embracing all the possibilities that scientific endeavour offers can humanity truly be freed and safe.

Created as guard dogs and sentries during the early days of Payson's growth from small town to impregnable fortress city, the K9 automata are unusual in that they were and still are entirely mechanical. As the Enlightened moved towards using more esoteric materials in their inventions the K9 has remained as one of their few creations that have not been in some part made partly of living tissue. This is a testament to its reliability.

Though the secrets of their manufacture were eventually given over to the Union by the defector Nikolai Tesla the Enlightened were unwilling to allow a rival to have access to superior technology so created a new K9 model, the H311, colloquially known as ‘the gun dog’. Built to serve as guardians to the heavily fortified Promethean Complexes this up armoured and more heavily armed version of the K9 sacrifices speed for armour and boasts a Gatling gun as well as the standard issue steel jaws. A pack of these beasts is more than a match for even a hardened unit of men with the weight of fire they can lay down. The gun dog also benefits for more advanced cranial engines enhanced with predictive modules that are programmed to mimic aggressive animal behaviour patterns whilst allowing for intuitive target requisition.

Despite Union embargoes the Enlightened sell copious quantities of K9 units on the black market so that it is not only the Union army or sanctioned Lawmen that are accompanied by a pack of these metal mutts. Outlaws, Hex Cultists, even farmers or barkeeps can buy a new best friend if they can afford it. Failing that they can steal them as only the most expensive models have voice recognition keyed to one owner meaning a hard reset in a workshop is usually enough for a change of ownership.

  • One could be forgiven for taking Countess Augusta Byron's perpetual air of melancholy as a symptom of her upbringing. After all, when one is raised around some of the most emotive and creative minds of their time, it is surely impossible not to absorb some of that need to create. All artists crave the perfect result, whether it be a musical composition that can reduce men to tears, or a painting so beautiful that not a single soul can step past without pausing to enjoy its beauty. The Augusta's canvas is infinitely more complex. Her magnum opus is herself. If she shows an interest in a particular individual's face or admires the length of their legs, that person is likely to witness firsthand her inconceivable feats of fleshcrafting. The Countess has improved upon her own person over the years until nobody – herself included – can even recall how she once looked. Presently, Augusta towers above the average woman, at seven feet in height, and although it could be argued that her entire body is nothing more than a patchwork, a mish-mash of disparate parts, it cannot be denied that the whole is striking and certainly memorable.

The New York Tribune recently published an article cautioning the use of advanced technology as it may “corrupt the moral fibre of our society.” Should the experiments conducted by Countess Augusta Byron be made common knowledge there would surely be an outcry amongst those of a sensitive and civilised disposition. Even amongst her fellow Enlightened Peers, the Countess is looked upon with a peculiar blend of awe and fear. A pioneer in galvanism, the Countess often applies that peculiar science into forming reanimated Creations - a blend of flesh, steel and lightning that creates a creature many times greater than the sum of its parts. The Countess has been know to cosset her ‘children’, always seeking new and better methods for improving them and granting them longevity. With such a fearless army at her command and with the capacity to make as many as needed, she is a force to be reckoned with.

  • The ruthless pursuit of scientific progress can blind many to the moral questions raised by such progress. Such is the case with many of the creations of the Covenant of the Enlightened, Brutes being a prime example of this blindness. Through the use of RJ-1027, the subject’s impressive frame has its musculature increased significantly and performance and strength are further enhanced with mechanical augmentations. The result is a hulking servant capable of wielding the heaviest firearms and able to fold sheet metal as if it were paper. Brutes are employed as enforcers, soldiers, and bodyguards by the Enlightened and have proven to be formidable in all these roles.

  • While a Peer of the Covenant of the Enlightened, Annabelle Hamilton’s first devotion has always been to the cause of the Confederacy of Southern States. She longs for any opportunity to throw a spanner in the gears of the Union of Federated States and hopes that one day her dream of The South rising again will be realised through her actions. Often seen in the company of Captain Mackeye of the former Confederate Army, her erstwhile sawbones Wendell Lee, and three terrifying characters known as Unger, Donovan and “Bloody” Bill Anderssen, most folks know that to see them in town means trouble isn’t too far behind.
