Like so many dungeons across Tamriel, Dwemer strongholds are filled with the remnants of former inhabitants’ lives. In the case of the Dwemer, these expertly crafted relics have stood the test of time and are often in much better condition than those found in other dungeons. Beds, tables, and benches of solid stone suggest the Dwemer valued simplicity and utility much more highly than comfort. Braziers of different shapes and sizes still provide illumination and heat after so long, such is the expertise with which they were built, functioning for centuries without maintenance. Ubiquitous pots and strangely decorative barrels may contain valuable items or dangerous substances. All of this and more can be discovered by the adventurous delvers who brave the traps and guardians left behind by their makers.

Dwemer strongholds are amongst the most durable structures found across Tamriel, and the great doors that bar the way into these underground complexes are no exception. Failure may simply mean no progress is made, but could also lead to the delver’s incineration or impalement. The intriguing ruins of Dwemer strongholds have endured the ages since the disappearance of their builders. That they have stood so long is testament to the skill of the Dwemer and the strange and durable materials used in their constructions. A handful of buildings on the surface inevitably lead adventurous souls into underground chambers, where extraordinary machines may still function, powered by steam and lightning.

Tread carefully in these deserted halls, and pray that the buttons and levers you encounter will open new ways forward, instead of summoning mechanical guardians, or activating flaming traps. If you survive such encounters, you may reap great rewards.

The strange, bronze-like metal used in much of the Dwemer’s engineering is a valuable resource that can be plundered from sturdy chests discovered throughout their still-active strongholds.
