• A timeless monk roams,

    Through paths distant and broad

    His soul unmoved, still.

    Guided by the void’s howl,

    Purple flame dances ahead,

    Night's shadows retreat.

If you have The Void box set - and if not, why not? - then Kodai is a must-have addition. Firstly, if for no other reason, you should get Kodai because when Hishigata dies, you can replace them with Kodai for free!

And we all like free. Kodai is a good Melee combatant with Sharp and Strong but also brings various supporting options. Dark from Light is a Ki Feat that protects your models from Opposed Ki Feats and makes enemies more susceptible to your own Opposed Ki Feats. Contemplate No Mind and The Void Stares Back are top-tier feats; ensuring they go off is critical to condemning your foes to the void.

On top of this, the key feature of Kinshi is the Void Counters, and Kodai helps you gather more. Combined with his camouflage effect and moving void rifts, this is a must-buy for all Kinshi players.

  • Odamu is typical of the Hoshi family. Their ways are old, uncorrupted by what others deem new or modern. Visiting them is to journey back in time regarding speech, manners, food, and attire. Hoshi Odamu is no exception. He wears armour most newer samurai have never even seen! However, his close relationship and proximity to the Minimoto clan ensures his blades and garb are still the most exemplary in Jwar. Because he has the blessings of the Bear Mon, he is at home fighting alongside his Minimoto allies. He has, over some time, developed a deep and heartfelt affinity for the great bears that call this place home. He feels it almost spiritually, a meeting of minds when both bear and Odamu are near one another. He cannot speak their tongue but has connection enough to lead these ferocious beasts into battle. He likes the wilds and spending time with the bears, following them into areas so cold and remote that another person would perish in moments. Not so Odamu; Hoshi's blood warms his veins, and the Hoshi are famed for enduring extreme cold and foul weather.

Finest Steel players will welcome this new samurai. Odamu is a challenging prospect on the field. Not only does he have a high number of Wound Boxes - as well as Armour 4 - but he punishes any would-be aggressors with Held, and often also Slow. But this is where it gets interesting: he also deals damage in return when wounded! With Armour (4) and the ubiquitous Just a Scratch card, this often deals more damage than Odamu takes!

  • The plains are vast, undulating oceans of grass and steppe fought over by horse-riding warriors of unparalleled speed and skill when in the saddle or on foot. Theirs is a nomadic lifestyle for most of the year until the long-dark winters come, and it is only then that they tend to dismount, gather around the watchfires and reflect on the days and cycles that went before. During summer, when the grass moves from side to side like the waves on the far-off seas, hunting game becomes more about skill than sheer brute force. Some hunters - like Batu - chase down larger prey while on horseback, unleashing a string of well-aimed arrows from his short curved bow to bring down deer or savage-toothed boars. But the falconers step forward when the grass is long and the prey incredibly stealthy. The rider may rule the plains, but the birds of prey rule the skies, and nothing escapes their knife-sharp eyesight. Rabbits, hares, small goats and deer are all a part of what the falcons catch from above. This relationship between a tribe member and a hunting bird is especially beneficial in the winter when the horses cannot move through the shoulder-deep snow.

Shiho and Tengu players can benefit from these unique ranged options. As they have no Ammo or Reload traits they will usually make ranged attacks whenever possible, not needing to wait for more optimal conditions. This leads to more chip damage, which is great before a set-up for a kill. However, they can only shoot once per turn, so their positioning to be a secondary objective model is also crucial. The noticeable thing about the ranged attack is it needs no LoS, and there are many ways to use these models to attack with impunity from reprisal. The Eye Peck Ki Feat is the icing on the cake, allowing them to debuff a target after their chip damage making it easier to set up for your finisher models, something both Shiho and Tengu often need.

This model can be fielded as part of a warband affiliated with the following factions: Shiho Clan, The Descension. Blister contains one miniature, 30mm base and full colour profile card.

  • Gashadokuro are mainly mindless, but somehow Satou Hatchi is not. It’s become apparent that not even his death can make him forget his extensive training and use of his now-mouldering battle gear and rusty weapons. Even more disturbing to his Yuta mistresses’ is that he has begun leading other skeletons into battle, much as he did in life! Usually, when the Yuta fashion a Gashadokura, only the bones break the earth’s skin to rise and serve again; the intellect and life spark of who they once were are long gone. Not so in Satou Hatchi’s case; there has been corruption in an already corrupt process!

For a Cult of Yurei player, the Gashodokuro offer a superb front line of models which are very difficult to remove. Satou Hatchi takes this one step further, as he is more resilient than a regular skeleton offering very respectable damage output compared to others of his ilk. He served in life, serving even harder in death.

  • The number three is synonymous with those who deal death from the shadows. That’s why Fuma wields a three-sectioned staff against her enemies. Fuma can use it with each “end section” in one hand while having the centre block incoming blows. Or she can swing the whole weapon granting her extra reach and power. No matter what she decides, this skilled assassin of the infamous North Star has options, and in her line of work, options are paramount to survival.

With two weapon options, built-in Blind Bombs, Activation Removal and great melee options, Fuma will be an excellent toolbox for any Ninja Warband exemplifying the North Star way. In addition, Fuma comes packed with the North Star Theme card offering a whole new playstyle for the House that prepares for any eventuality.

Blister contains one miniature supplied with a 30mm base and 6 full colour profile cards.

  • The Void is the antithesis of those from the Temple of Ro-Kan, the direct opposite in every way, shape and form. If Ro-Kan is light, then the Void is its shadow; it is the night to their day, and the most obvious observation is the Yin to their Yang. Unlike the monks of the Ro-Kan, they have no Ki. None. Life and time generate Ki; the Void monks seek to destroy it. The Void aims to return everything to a glorious state of nothing, darkness, silence, and Void. What the Temple of Ro-Kan builds, the Void monks seek to eradicate.

  • The Ghost of Fuwa is a tale older than the Empire's rulership of the Jwar Isles. In the story, the spirit appears and causes suffering and sorrow in Fuwa until a lowly monk tries to banish it, learning it was wronged in life and must be appeased. Its ghostly hands escape the lantern looking for flesh to squeeze and choke, such a spirit is an obvious draw for the cult of Yurei. How much of the story is true, we cannot guess, as it comes to us from the Ito clan, allies of duplicity.

  • Remember that most of the time, when it comes to Jima and the Silver Moon Syndicate, The House Always Wins... well. Enter young Fuku, a man of marvel with cards, dice, lee-rets, bluffing, blinding, and bidding. One night, he won so much that he earned the eternal ire of one of the underbosses, Deikuo. Deikuo was convinced that Fuku was somehow cheating but could not work out how. All he knew was that Fuku played large and loud, leaving the table just before his luck would surely turn for the worse. He even sent several of his thugs after Fuku, but strangely enough, they all suffered extremely "unlucky" accidents.

Determined to make Fuku lose, Deikuo used a considerable portion of his wealth to offer to the Rakki to make Fuku lose on a costly hand of cards. It's said that this is how the Rakki got that slight smile on the side of his mouth because Fuku won the hand, costing not only the players but Deikuo himself all they possessed. You can't bet against luck, it seems. After winning, even more, he drew the unwanted attention of the Oyabun of the Golden Dawn, who made him an offer he could simply not refuse; you can't play games of chance when you're dead, so he now works for the Silvermoon Trade Synidicate, because as anyone knows, those who the Golden Rakki will not, or cannot, interfere with are valuable.

Like many models in the Silvermoon Trade Syndicate, Fuku is not taken for his overt combat ability. Instead, his collection of luck-altering abilities fits in well with the Silvermoon's existing re-roll mechanics. Gamblers' Ruin can cause even the most skilled model to simply have an unlucky roll, and Misfortune can cause glancing blows to turn into fatal hits.
